Study and Memorization

I feel as though I averaged 6 hours of study a day seven days a week in 1967-1971 at St. John's Annapolis. In high school I would get home at 4pm, eat dinner, go right to sleep and then wake up at 11pm - midnight and study straight through until morning and then go directly to school so I slept in the evenings. I did that because I study best when I first wake up. Throughout grammar school and high school I confused study/knowledge with MEMORIZATION because we were constantly required to memorize vocabulary lists, periodic tables, declensions, conjugations, historical dates, etc and then vomit it all back on some multiple choice test and then we were free to forget it.
