Diaspora Social Networking, Groups, Aspects, Privacy
This is only the end of my 2nd day on Diaspora, but it seems to me that:
1.) If I NEVER do a global post to the world but only post in some particular aspect
2.) Only add to that aspect people who will want to read what I write on said topic and that I will want to interact with
THEN…
No one can know how many aspects I have or what they are…
People who chose to share with me will only see whatever I post globally
Members of one of my aspects will only see who are members of that particular aspect.
THEREFORE …
An #aspect is kind of like a #GROUP
I suppose there will be circumstances where one person would like to BLOCK another person and not even be visible to them (perhaps an IGNORE list).
But at least what we have right now is superior to Facebook because whatever I post on FB is visible to all 1080 friends, a few of whom are conservative, many of whom are liberal, some of whom are devoutly religious, others of whom are rabidly atheistic… so whatever I say must be tempered so as not to be too offensive to any one group of people.
My wife only likes Facebook so that she can share photos with a few distant relatives.
I like Facebook, Wordpress, Twitter, Diaspora because I want as many people as possible to be able to read what I write if it is of interest to them. In other words, I want to GAIN readership and I like adding total strangers. But then I may post in things like Twitter, Wordpress, Posterous and it will go into the search engines, but someone who takes a great interest will seek me out in Diaspora…
