In God We Trust

I was summoned to jury duty and noticed that each court room has a huge plaque "IN GOD WE TRUST" and it occurred to me WHY that should be offensive to any Christian who actually understands Christianity (and most don't.) The ESSENCE of Christianity is to confess CHRIST AS GOD, so the statement "IN GOD WE TRUST" may refer to some non-Christian notion of God. Obviously atheists and perhaps agnostics will find such a sign offensive. Jews and Muslims should find it offensive for many and various reasons. When a Jew writes in English they will often write G-d so as not to appear to use the divine name but in speaking they would say Hashem ("the Name") - and one of the final Surahs in the Qur'an known as "The Surah to the Unbeliever (Infidel)" reads "Say therefore unto the unbeliever 'the religion that you worship is not the religion that we worship and the religion that we worship is not the religion that you worship so therefore unto you YOUR religion and unto us OUR religion."  The phrase "IN GOD WE TRUST" did not come into use until the McCarthy Communist witch-hunt era. Dollar bills prior to 1958 do not display the motto.
