Google's Limited Private Posting Feature
Whatever the "original intention" of LIMITED posting might or might not have been, I suddenly realized this week that a very successful scientist rightly feels employers would discriminate against him were the depth and breadth of his internet activity known. His activity enriches my life to the extent that I walk away with the equivalent of a bachelor or master degree of knowledge from following his posts. He realizes that prospective employers expect (perhaps unreasonably) that their scientist employee be monolithic and monomaniacal and devoted solely to their job efforts. It may well be the case that a powerful mind is stimulated by the diversity and richness which his broad interests pursue. Anyway, for him PUBLIC means job related activity and PRIVATE means what he finds fascinating.
