Pure water from broken cisterns

The Greek old calendar Orthodox that I spent 20 years with used to argue that EVERYTHING depended upon the doctrinal integrity of the BISHOPS... so the priests could be in error and the laity could be in error but it was the dogmatic purity of the Bishops which mattered... BUT if the Bishops were in error then the priests and deacons and laity could be WALKING ON WATER, and still they are in heresy... and the argument was that "you cannot draw pure water from a broken cistern [well])
