Wi-Fi Problems Solved

I have a 2nd Windows XP machine running on Belkin adaptor wireless (same as this machine). It was connecting fine the other day but NOW, nothing on it can connect to the internet and yet the Belkin shows it has good wifi connection, so, I am scanning with malwarebytes.org on the chance that something is afoul, but otherwise I am clueless as to how the Belkin can show strong connect but the browsers and yahoo chat, etc are dead. after malwarebytes.org scan completes, my next option is to disconnect the belkin connection and then try reconnecting. I can also see all the other protected wify channels in my neighborhood not that I would want to use them.

Wow, I figured out the problem. Weird. While the malwarebytes.org scan was running it occurred to me to try out the Microsoft Internet Explorer which I never use. It too told me that there is a problem but it offered me the option of a diagnostic test. It told me that there is both wireless and wired internet. I chose wireless and it said that I should use the Belkin tools. So, I launched the Belkin interface and low and behold, for some reason it was set to automatically try to connect to some of the neighborhood wifi signals in addition to my own. So I unchecked all those and then just checked my own wifi and reconnected. So problem solved (for now anyway until Murphy's law decides that I must gain wisdom through more suffering.)
