Christianity and the philosophers

These are not MY beliefs... I was only Christian for 20 years... but what I describe reflects the centuries old position of the Greek Orthodox... frankly I abandoned Christianity after 20 years because I realized that I could never be what I was expected to be, and I felt it was hypocrisy for me to remain... But, Jeffery, I think it would be very useful for you in your academic position to give serious consideration to this other very different position...  My personal beliefs evolved into an eclectic combination of Hindu and Buddhist notions... but I would never suggest that anyone else agree with me or follow me...   I do see very serious problems with YOUR assumptions of what philosophy and reason is and how it relates to religion in general and Christianity in particular..  and to be brutally honest, a teacher in a seminary who attaches so much importance to Voltaire is perhaps a symptom of what is increasingly wrong with Christianty. It all comes right back to page 1 of Hans Kung's "On Being Christian"  ... WHY do we need Christ.... why cant we just live good lives and follow the collective wisdoms of Voltaire, Camus, Lock, Plato, etc.
