Someone is Whining about a Long Resume in G+

Someone in Google Plus asks:

What do you think about applicants that put every single job they've ever had on their CVs?

Why would you do that?

William responds:

Why would one be so foolish and naive as to assume that everyone's circumstances are the same? And yet if you feel confident that such a resume is inappropriate then obviously you would not feel the need to solicit the opinion of others.

I have known many people who worked at one job for a number of years. If you are interviewing people then the resume is simply a tool and not the most important tool.

I have personally seen a number of resumes and job references which are gross exaggerations and in some cases fabrications. There is no substitute for a personal interview.

No offense. These are simply my reactions as I browse posts while drinking my morning coffee.

You did ask WHY someone might do that. Honesty perhaps? Most of the people I have encountered in my life are masters of B.S. (and I don't mean Bachelor of Science) so honesty and candor is something alien. All the scandal we see among people of wealth and power seem to confirm that notion.

In the 1980s Robert Half and Associates wrote a book on how to interview job candidates which stressed that one should try to be POSITIVE with the candidate and explore how they might contributed to the Company, rather than be negative and try to tear them down.

If it is in theory possible for someone to send an impressive resume and be a disappointment in the work place then it is conceivable that a person with a disappointing resume could be just right for the job unless of course you are hiring them to write resumes.

I wonder how desperate the candidate is for a job if he/she were aware of this long thread which defames their character.

What else is wrong with the resume aside from the fact that it lists every job they have ever had?  Do you see errors in spelling or punctuation?

What sort of job is it? If you are looking for a programmer then perhaps they are a terrific programmer but a terrible resume writer.

A lot of people pay someone to write their resume for them.  Perhaps they would be a great employee but they simply chose the wrong person to write their resume.

How many resumes in total have you received?  If you received one thousand then I find it strange that you are so preoccupied with this one.  If you received two resumes then have them both come in.
